Family Giving Tree's Holiday Wish Drive Success!

With strong support from our Airborne families, our Family Giving Tree was a huge success. On December 18th, we dropped off
over 125 amazing toys, gift cards, books, and clothes for babies, kids and teens! A few of our Airborne gymnasts also worked
in the warehouse - tagging and sorting gifts. Our wish of making Christmas extra special for many Bay Area families was granted!
Thanks again to all of the families and staff who graciously donated!
Employee of the Month - Liz Crandall

Starting off 2012 for our Employee of the Month is Liz Crandall (soon to be Liz Howell). Liz has been our upper level
optional coach for the last 5 years and has created some fantastic floor routines for our girls. One of the programs she
manages is our TOPS program, which we have qualified a gymnast every year for the National team. Liz brings a unique
side of herself to our gym. She has been a Brevet judge for 11 years and was an accomplished elite and collegiate
gymnast. She is mother to sons Jacob (9 yrs.) and Noah (6yrs.). Liz is starting off 2012 with a lot of excitement
as she will be getting married over the New Year’s weekend to Justin! Congratulations Liz and we wish you and Justin
many years of happiness.
College Commitments!
We are so proud of our college signees to date...
Camilla Opperman to Yale!
Alecia Floyd to Lindenwood!
Sarah Marquez to Oregon State!
Look for their bios to be posted soon on the Seniors page.
Airborne's TOPS Program Continues to Succeed

The tops season was incredibly succesful this year. This young group (all under 10 years old) showed great poise and dedication
throughout the season. Four athletes tested this year. Mina Popovich tested as an 8 year old; and Maiya Nishime, Emma Malabuyo,
and Kaitlyn Lyle all tested in the 9 year old division.
All four girls made great strides and achieved personal best scores repeatedly during the four tests. Maiya Nishime, Emma Malabuyo, and Kaitlyn Lyle all
qualified to the National TOPS test at The National Team Training Center in Huntsville, TX.

Emma Malabuyo qualified to the TOPS National A Team, which is comprised of the top 15 athletes at 8, 9, and 10 years old.
This is quite an accomplishment!
Kaitlyn Lyle also achieved TOPS National B Team status, which places her in the top 45 athletes in her age group.
We are very proud of all 4 girls for their continued success in this program.
Compulsory Gymnasts Break Airborne Records!
This past weekend, the Airborne Team gymnasts participated in the Disco-Tech Invitational Meet in Sacramento.
These girls achieved a phenomenal number of 75 first place medals!
Amongst our champions we had some record-breaking performances. Each year it becomes more difficult to break into the Airborne
all-time scores. But 3 gymnasts did just that.
Congratulations to Level 5 Paulette Ma for rockin’ a 9.6 vault!
Conratulations to Level 6 Brittany Fedkiw for scoring a 9.75 on bars!
Congratulations to Level 6 Kaitlyn Lyle for a huge 9.9 on beam and an outstanding All-Around of 38.450!

New Equipment!
New equipment alert! Take a look around the gym…we’ve got some new equipment. We have recovered 4 new beams, purchased
3 new road beams, a new AAI vaulting board, and new boulders!
Wedding News!
Wedding News! Congratulations to coach LeighAnn on her engagement this summer. LeighAnn will be getting married next
summer in Ireland where her fiancé is from. Best of luck LeighAnn.
National Gymnastics Day
UPDATE:National Gymnastics day big success!!! A big thank you to all of our gymnasts, parents, and coaches who participated
in kicking up to handstand!! We along with many other gyms across the country broke the World’s Record! In addition to this, we raised
$1016 for the Children’s Miracle Network.
Each year, USA Gymnastics celebrates National Gymnastics Day to raise exposure of the sport. Since 2001, gymnastics clubs across the country have raised more than $1.4 million for Children’s Miracle Network. The funds raised are distributed to the Children’s Miracle Network hospital in the club’s community. As part of this year’s National Gymnastics Day on Sept. 17th, gymnasts, families, friends and enthusiasts from gymnastics clubs nationwide kicked up their feet in show of strength for the sport, raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network and celebrate “The Year of the Handstand.”
We at Airborne decided to join in the fun and attempt to break the world record for most handstands done at one time.

Costa accepts a full ride scholarship to West Virginia University!
After falling in love with the coaches at University of West Virginia and wanting to be near her extended family on the East Coast, Gina makes her decision!
Congratulations Gina, we wish you the very best! Go Mountaineers!
Stanford Scholarship for Melissa Chuang!
Congratulations to Melissa for such an awesome achievement. This is Airborne’s first Stanford gymnast -
after years of hard work academically and in the gym! We are proud of you, Melissa. Go Cardinals!
The 2012 Olympic Trials coming to San Jose

We are very excited to announce that the San Jose HP Pavilion will be hosting the 2012 Olympic
Trials next June! We are very fortunate to have such a big event right in our backyard. This gives
our gym's families an opportunity to preview the future Olympic team. Airborne has reserved seats in
sections 127 and 103 (which you can view on the HP Pavilion map on the link below or the attachment
to this email). All-session ticket packages are on sale now for an early bird price. We highly recommend
the Silver package, which is now on sale for $200 as opposed to the standard public price of $310. This
gives each individual access to all four sessions. We hope you will join us at this exciting event!

A Record Breaking Optional Season
It has been an awesome season so far. Our level 7 team is currently ranked #1 in the country holding the TOP 2
team scores! Breaking a 116 overall team total is an Airborne record! There has also been 2 record breaking
individual events with Amaya Troy scoring a 9.9 on beam and McKenna Zimmerman rocking a 9.95 on bars!! This
team is on a roll and looking forward to the upcoming State meet.
Our Level 8 team is building momentum with some outstanding individual performances. Karina Brouse is undefeated for
AA for the entire pre-season. The majority of the team has reached a 37.00 plus.
The Level 9/10 team has had an amazing season so far. The 10 team has won all but 1 competition and the BIG highlight
so far is Sarah Marquez blasting a big 9.9 on an extremely difficult Yurchenko 1 ½!!!!! This is the highest optional
vault score not only for Airborne but also Northern California. Looking ahead the team will have Regionals, Westerns,
and JO Nationals. We are looking forward to a great outcome!

Family Giving Tree - A Wonderful Success!!!
We at Airborne, have volunteered to host a drive in hopes to make some holiday wishes come true for many underprivileged children and families this season. The Family Giving Tree partners with local social service agencies that register children and homeless persons in need year-round. These agency partners interview the families to evaluate their specific needs. Their requests are sent to the Family Giving Tree Elves who then print these individual wishes on cards and distribute them to host companies like ours throughout the Bay Area.
Thanks to all of our families, we have cleared the tree of 50 wishcards and are almost done with another 50! We
couldn’t have done it without your help.
Wedding Bells are ringing!!
Congratulations to our 2 optional coaches, Justin and Liz, on their engagement! Best wishes for a Happy Future!
New Equipment/New Foam!!!
Thanks to a great turn out with our Annual Fundriaser from World's Finest Chocolate, we have purchased a lot of new,
FUN equipment.
Preschool and Recreational program received colorful scooters, shiny new shapes, soft foam stairs,
an awesome boulder to help teach those flip flops, and TONS of new foam pit for both pit areas. Team also got a new
vaulting board, a handstand trainer, and is working on installing new spotting belts over the tramp and bars. The
boys program can look forward to the installation of a pommel horse very soon.
Thanks again to all of our families in their strong support this year!
Perpetual Trophy
Congratulations to our awesome staff and gymnasts for once again winning the beautiful Perpetual Trophy we get to
showcase on our gym. This accomplishment is one to be proud of as it is a combination of total points accumulated
by all competitive Levels in the Junior Olympic Program. We had several AllAround and State Champions as well as
Team Champions. This trophy is awarded to the gym with the highest total number of points at the State meet. All
gyms in Northern California compete for this award and we are very proud to have accomplished this once again. If
you haven't seen this trophy, it is displayed on the front desk. Congratulations again to a great achievement by
our coaches and gymnasts.
Poker Night Wrap Up
"Congratulations to Tom Dyal for taking down Bret Guenther heads up. Tom spiked a jack with JQ against Bret's KQ to
take down the week in Mexico and the first Gold PN Ring! I'd like to thank everyone for their support of the SPIRIT
Booster, your generosity is greatly appreciated and I hope everyone had as good a time as I did. "
- Dave Borgese
Our first annual Poker Night was a rousing success! Preliminary accounting shows about $14-16K brought in - and yes -- that is after expenses! Final tally is being done now and will be shared in the newsletter. It was a great evening of fun!
Thanks so very much to those who worked the event -- Anna, Odette, Susannah, and Gina. Also a big thanks to the Jensen Family and Miller Family for donating vacation weeks for incredible prizes!! Appreciation goes out to Leah S. for using her contacts to obtain donated beer. And a big thank you to the owners and coaches of Airborne, Mel, Leah, Justin, Liz, and Tanya who supported the cause and attended the event with many of their friends -- and to a the parents of our gymnasts who also supported the cause and attended: Troy family, Tiendas family, Bajtos family, Ruggiero family - and their friends who also spend their evening with us.
We can't thank our sponsors enough that helped us make this event so successful:
FedEx, Los Gatos Brewery, Hotel Los Gatos, Forbes Mill, Double D's, Miner Family Winery.

Airborne represents at National Judges Cup!
Airborne kicked off 2009 with an exciting start of the
optional season. 5 of our Level 7s qualified to represent the NorCal State Team at the 20th National Judges Cup Championship in
Kissimmee, Florida on January 2nd – 4th. Of the 120 gymnasts in the NorCal area competing to be selected for the 7 spots on
the NorCal State Team, 5 of those spots went to Airborne gymnasts: Destinee Henderson, Asha Mehta, Robin Peter, Tien Phan
and Katie Silbermann. This is the highest number of Level 7s Airborne has qualified to this annual competition in one year!
This is an awesome achievement for these 5 Airborne Level 7s to qualify to the annual National Judges Cup Championship
and a great honor to be representing NorCal. These gymnasts did exceptionally well at the competition with Asha and Robin
having the highest all-around in each of their sessions and the NorCal State Team placing 2nd out of more than 20 State teams.
It was a fun and exciting 3 day trip to Florida. After the competition the girls spent a full day at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World.
There was even enough time on the day we flew back to California for the girls to have fun in the sun in the pool at the hotel!
Congratulations to the girls for a job well done. Go Airborne!
Free Trial Class
We proudly offer a FREE TRIAL to all new students
Just call and schedule a free evaluation and participate in one of our wonderful classes.
Trial waiver form must accompany friend. This is for NEW STUDENTS only.
Airborne Gymnast Shines Among Olympic Stars

Airborne gymnast, Desi Borgese got the opportunity of a lifetime last October when she got the chance to perform with her idols in the
Olympic Tour of Champions. Desi is an elite gymnast and was asked to perform based on her recent accomplishments at the Visa
Championships.
Performers included Olympic Champion Nastia Liukin and silver medalist Shawn Johnson. Desi rocked the crowd with a floor
routine to Disney artist Miley Cyrus and performed like a Pro. Great Job Desi, way to make us proud!
Employee of the Month - Stephanie McCarthy

Stephanie McCarthy has been chosen for the November EOM not only because she is a valuable part of our staff, but November is an
important month for our TEAM program. For 5 years, Stephanie has been a huge part of the success our TEAM has during the season as
well as at the State meets. Starting the month off, the Airborne Level 6's not only broke a few records but finished in the top spot
in Northern California and had great success on floor (which Stephanie has been a great influence) You can see Stephanie working
with our preschool age children, developmental, and team girls. Her desire to work fine details, instill discipline, and give
technical corrections are apparent in our girls. Stephanie has worked the greatest number of hours per week for years and continues
to show her dedication to our gymnastics family, often working 7 days a week. 2012 will be a great year for Stephanie as she will be
getting married! Congratulations Steph!
Employee of the Month
This month we wanted to showcase Airborne's Amazing recreational managers. This gym would not be what
it is today without these 4 dynamic individuals. We fell extremely fortunate to have these wonderful
people heading our Airborne recreational program. We hope all of our families get the opportunity to
become more familiar with these hard working teachers: Marc Courtney, Teresa Babcock, Do (Karyn) Yemoto, and
Lindsay Monighan.
TERESA - We get the best of so many world's with Teresa. Best described as a "hard worker", Teresa brings an incredible energy to our program and has taken Airborne to an entirely new level with the Best Birthday Parties in town ( check out the reviews on Yelp). Her specialty is the extra "TLC" and customer service she is willing to put forth in everything she does at Airborne. Teresa's ability to recognize when changes need to be made with staff, schedules, and implementing new customer service ideas to better serve our families is incredibly valuable. She always leads by example with strong work ethic. Whether it's Birthday parties, teaching and creating Diaper dynos set ups, to making the beginning gymnast feel like a champion. Teresa successfully manages what is now over 10 birthday staff instructors. Out of the gym, Teresa enjoys spending time with her 4 children and has opened her home up to 32 foster children!
MARC COURTNEY - In the morning classes, he is known as “Teacher Marc” because he teaches our youngest gymnasts.
In the afternoon he is the disciplined experienced boys recreational coach and compulsory TEAM "Coach Marc"
(voted 2007 Compulsory Coach of the Year!). 2 years ago, Marc spoke to us about implementing a new program
to introduce the wonderful sport of gymnastics to babies and toddlers. Because of this vision, you can now
come into the gym Monday-Thursday mornings and find the gym packed with crawlers and walkers practicing valuable
beginning gymnastics and locomotor skills. Marc has a special, unique gift in the way that he communicates with
these toddlers. With over 33 years of experience teaching in Japan, Australia and the USA, Marc brings a whole
world of knowledge to our preschool program, our compulsory TEAM programs and the boy's program, which he
directs. As a result of his success, he has been asked to lecture at various gymnastics clubs, training
camps and educational seminars for coaches and gymnasts around the region. Marc is very environmentally
conscientious and enjoys riding his bike to and from work. It is not surprising that with his strong background
in dance he enjoys taking various dance classes in his free time and creating exciting new vegetarian dishes.
LINDSAY - Lindsay brings a calm, organized presence to the recreational and developmental program. In addition to the dedication to our kids at Airborne, Lindsay juggle a 2nd job and enjoys running , sewing, baking and hanging out with friends. Lucky for us, the Airborne staff gets to enjoy her awesome baked goods! We appreciate her willingness to step in and support the staff she manages. This type of loyalty and commitment is obvious as she has been there to fill in, stay late for classes that weren't covered and maneuver the schedule to accommodate the various staff coaches who are still in college and want to teach. Lindsay's ability to train and hire new employees has led us to some amazing new coaches! Also a great multi-tasker ( handling role books, coaching, leading Airborne events, and working birthday parties to name a few) is valuable to Airborne's success!
DO (Karyn) - Do has been a part of the Airborne family since the first day we broke cement back in 1994. Before
Do took the job as recreational/developmental manager, she was busy contributing to the TEAM success as a
talented gymnast. As a fiesty, aggressive 7 year old, Do quickly progressed in gymnastics. She was a member
of the prestigious National TOPS Team, won level 7 and 8 states, Regionals, and was a member of several State
Team Championship titles. She competed through Level 10 before an injury forced her to retire. We are fortunate
Do is here at Airborne while she continues to finish her education. Do's bright demeanor and nurturing
personality is an asset not only for all of our students but also the parents and staff. Do brings a wonderful
maturity to her job and the girls are getting an opportunity to learn from someone who has been through
competitive gymnastics first hand.
